When the Choi Hung station was first built in 1979, the intention was to have two tracks.
The spot where the sisters jumped is now the intersection of Tsat Tsz Mui Road and Model Lane. After witnessing this scene, the bullies retreated but within two days, all members of the gang killed themselves by seppuku (abdomen-cutting) and the bodies of the seven sisters resurfaced seven days later with their hands holding. The seven sisters reached Tsat Tsz Mui Bay and had nowhere to run, they decided to commit suicide together by drowning so that they can ‘share the same destiny’. On the final night, the other six sisters tried to delay the wedding procession so that the bride-to-be would have time to escape but the bullies were in hot pursuit. The seven sisters were devastated and cried for three days and three nights. One day, a group of bullies came to the village and the gang leader got his eyes on one of the sisters and ordered her to marry him within three days. There were seven orphan girls who had a relationship close like sisters and they made a vow to ‘share the same destiny’ on Seven Sisters Festivals, and since then, everyone in the village called them ‘Seven Sisters’. Today, East Town Building stands at the original site of East Town Theatre.Ībout 100 years ago, where Tsat Tsz Mui Road (literally means Seven Sisters Road) now stands was a fishing village. The management of East Town Theatre decided to close the men’s restroom temporarily, hoping news of this ghostly incident would slowly fade away and not damage business, but unfortunately, the theatre itself closed down shortly after the incident. The poor man was totally spooked and had to be hospitalised for psychiatric treatment. He thought it was his mind playing tricks on him but when he looked into the mirror again, there was a head (yes, just the head) with blood flowing out its eyes. One time, a man went to the restroom in the midst of showing and saw a head flashed by from the reflection in the mirror. There were rumours that the morgue of the old funeral parlour was in the same location of the restrooms. Usually, the number of admission is fewer than tickets sold for the last showing but the situation was the opposite at East Town – the admission was more than tickets sold, so the manager suspected people of using counterfeit tickets but after checking, the number of stubs and tickets sold matched… Wanting to get to the bottom of things, the manager locked the main doors and did a head count, and he saw a few mysterious black shadows among the audience… The hauntings first started at the sales counter and admission entrance. However, East Town Theatre closed down within 10 short years. With 1,300 seats and equipment for playing 70mm stereo films, it was considered the best theatre in town.
Remodelled from the old International Funeral Parlour, East Town theatre opened its doors to the public on 9 February, 1964. High Street Haunted House was made a Declared Monument of Hong Kong in 2015. And for the next 20 years, it was the haunt of curious teenagers and drug addicts from a nearby drug rehab clinic.Īfter being badly damaged by two fires, the Old Mental Hospital was rebuilt in 2001 and in its place now stands the Sai Ying Pun Community Complex, only the original granite façade and arched veranda remain. When the building was abandoned in the 1970s, stories of ghostly sightings began to circulate, telling tales of the ghosts of mental patients and headless prisoners mourning and wandering the corridors late at night. When Hong Kong was occupied by the Japanese during World War II, the structure was used as an execution ground and bodies were dumped in a mass grave in King George V Memorial Park, which is right across the street. Located at the corner of High Street and Eastern Street, the building was built in 1892 as quarters for European nurses and later transformed into an asylum.
